Basil is a tropical herb that can also be grown in any
other natural or artificially warm climate. Fresh basil is widely used
for cooking because it gives food a good scent and taste. It also has
the typical nutritions of green vegetables. Basil is also used as
dried, but it loses most of its excellent properties as a spice if not
used fresh. Therefore, fresh basil is preferred in any kitchen!
Eggplants are of the nightshade plants. They come in rounded or long
shape. Currently a bit more than half of the eggplants are produced by
China. Eggplants are used in many recipes; they are boiled, fried, deep
fried, stuffed, baked and used for absorbing oil. Eggplants can also
help reduce cholesterol.
Tomato plants fall in nightshade family of plants. Tomatoes are said to
originate from South America. Today it is cultivated all over the world
and about a third of Tomatoes are produced in China. Tomatoes come in a
various shapes, sizes and colors and are great source of antioxidants.
They can be left on the vine to ripen or they may be picked green and
stored to ripen; but the plant will do a better job of ripening the
tomato as it gives more color, flavour and nutrition to it. So many of
the food products we eat daily are made from tomatoes. Tomato sauce,
paste, Ketchup, pasta sauce, salads; you name it!
Zucchinis come in green or yellow and may fully grow up to 3 meters,
but they will not be of much use if left to grow fully, so they are
picked as immature to be edible and tasty. They are cooked, baked,
fried, deep fried, or barbecued. Adding small amount of salt will
normally make this low calorie vegetable more tasty. It is a good
source of vitamin A and also potassium. It is also shown that zucchini
will help reduce body fat by elevating the metabolism.
